Basketball Wives star Nia Crooks has been charged with misdemeanor battery for slapping Jennifer Williams on a recent episode of the VH1 "hit" show.
A rep for the Broward County State's Attorney's Office says officials decided to file the criminal charge on April 10, after Williams filed a formal complaint.
If convicted, Nia Crooks faces up to a year in prison.
During the January incident, which aired on last week's Basketball Wives, Nia can be heard threatening to slap Jennifer in the lead-up to the attack.
Jennifer then replied, "I wish you would." Ask and ye shall receive.
Nia's lawyer Marc David Seitles said in a statement, "We will vigorously defend Nia against these charges ... The women on this show executed contracts expressly accepting the risk that a physical altercation could occur."
SIDE NOTE: If that's true, smart move by VH1's parent company.
The lawyer adds, "Given that Jennifer herself has previously instigated fights, to cry foul now is absurd and a desperate attempt for publicity and money."
"We will fight until Nia is vindicated."
