PANTO star Linda Martin last night called the gardai after a Twitter imposter using her name sent a string of abusive messages to Sinead O?Connor.

The former Eurovision winner made an official complaint to gardai over the ?shocking and horrific? tweets.

The faker poked fun at the end of O?Connor?s 16-day marriage, leading to a furious online backlash from the singer?s Twitter account ? who thought they had been sent by the real Linda Martin.

Posts from the Nothing Compares 2 U star?s Twitter account accused Ms Martin of ?harassing? Ms O?Connor and raged: ?She?s calling it ?help? but its actually abuse.

?Will be happy to give her emails to newspapers if she contacts me any more.?

Angry Ms Martin said in a statement last night she was not on Twitter and had no intention of opening an account.

She added: ?It has just come to my attention that there is an unofficial Twitter account set up under the name of Lindamartinrte.

?Someone is unofficially tweeting as Linda Martin. The references to Sinead O?Connor, Georgia Salpa and anyone else are not mine.

?I am both shocked and horrified that someone would do this. The matter is now with the gardai.

?None of the views, opinions or statements expressed on this twitter account are mine.?

Ms Martin is currently performing in the hit panto Jedward And The Beanstalk at Dublin?s Olympia Theatre.

As well as attacking Sinead, 45, her online imposter also slammed Georgia for pulling out of rival panto Sleeping Beauty.

The fake tweeter pretending to be Ms Martin sent several insulting messages to O?Connor.

In response to the posts the singer?s Twitter account said: ?I did not know it was abusive until I read it.?

O?Connor could not be reached for comment last night.

Last week she broke off her 16-day marriage to drugs counsellor
Barry Herridge on Christmas Eve, claiming it was like ?living in a coffin?.

She also insisted she still loves her fourth husband but felt like she would have been trapping him in marriage.

A trip to buy drugs on her wedding night also led to friction between the pair.
